Looking in the Pastis a compilation of six stories and one essay. It is based on author’s recollection of events and observations, relying entirely on his memory, as a school boy, a research student, a post-doctoral fellow, an academic teacher, a visitor, and a witness of the society. Characters and events in a chapter are based on their sequential description over a specific period. Each chapter is a record of changing traditions, mutual relationship and general life of the people in our society with time.

After Excursion in Past and Present, published first in 2021, Looking in the Past is author’s second nonscientific book.

EXCURSIONS IN PAST AND PRESENT: A COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES AND ESSAYS - Second Edition

Author: Keshra Sangwal
Publication year: August 2022, Pages 162, ISBN: 978-1-68509-991-6 (paperback)

book cover photo

Somewhere in late nineteen nineties the author thought that individual episodes that he heard from his elders and that he himself witnessed during his life could serve as a record of changing traditions, mutual relationship and general life of the people in the society with time. Relying entirely on his memory he constructed some of those episodes in the form of twenty short stories and essays in the compilation Excursion in Past and Present,  which was published in 2021.

This second edition is a revised version of the previous edition of the above compilation. The author has revised contents of different chapters of the previous edition following suggestions and opinions of its readers. Apart from corrections of spelling mistakes and rewriting of some of the sentences to clarify their sense in the text of the previous edition, this edition also contains more atypical words or terms in the glossary at the end.

The objective of the collection of stories and essays in this edition of the book remains the same. It presents author’s vision of events and observations. Characters and events in the short stories and essays span over a period starting from the twentieth century up to the present. Each story is a narration of strong and weak sides of human behaviour.

The present collection of the short stories and essays is author’s first non-scientific work.

Solvents and Solutions is a systematic compilation of important problems and developments in the investigation of selected properties of solvents and solutions published during the last three decades. The author places emphasis on explaining the basic concepts involved in understanding the properties and behavior of various solvents and solutions of electrolytes and nonelectolytes in a consistent manner. After a description of general characteristics of structure of solvents and solutions and the solubility of electrolytes and nonelectrolytes under normal temperature and pressure conditions, the book first deals with different aspects of the density and the refractive index of solvents and dilute as well as concentrated solutions, and finally with the transport (i.e. viscosity and electric conductivity) and thermal properties of solvents and solutions. Contents of different chapters are not only self-contained but are practically independent of each other.

The book is written as a practical guide for researchers who are looking for an up-to-date overview of the physical and transport properties of solvents and solutions, and as a reference source for workers in chemical industries and related fields and for graduate students of chemical engineering and physical chemistry.

Author: Keshra Sangwal
Publication year: August 2018. Pages: xxv + 480. ISBN: 978-1-119-46157-9

The subject matter of the book deals with the description of metastable zone width and processes and phenomena associated with metastability of solutions and melts. Main emphasis is placed on low-temperature solutions which are usually involved in crystallization in different industries but melts are considered in view of the fact that crystallization of fats usually occurs from melts. Starting from the basic knowledge of solutions and fundamentals of crystallization processes, different topics are organized and discussed in a general and unified way with appropriate support of published literature and illustrative figures. The presentation of contents of different chapters has been kept at elementary level, with emphasis on the interpretation of different observations using basic concepts of nucleation and growth of crystals and undergraduate level mathematics.
