Department of Sustainable Transport and Powertrains

Driving the transport of the future

The Department of Sustainable Transport and Powertrains is a modern research centre focused on efficient, environmentally friendly and intelligent transport. We concentrate on the technical and operational aspects of road transport systems – from transport companies to environmentally friendly urban mobility solutions.

  • Sustainable mobility
  • Propulsion sources
  • HCCI engines
  • Alternative fuels
  • Diagnostics

Research on propulsion systems and transport systems

Our research covers durability, economic and environmental analyses of piston internal combustion engines, including modern HCCI units and engines powered by alternative fuels. We combine propulsion engineering with the real needs of sustainable mobility.

Goal

To design and implement solutions that increase efficiency, reduce emissions and support intelligent transport.

Research on propulsion systems and transport systems

Optimized engineering

We develop methods and criteria for optimizing the design and operating principles of equipment performing mechanical processes in:

Process engineering

Optimization of processes and equipment in terms of efficiency and reliability.

Food industry

Solutions reducing costs and energy consumption of technological processes.

Environmental protection

Minimizing environmental impact and increasing energy efficiency.

We create solutions that increase energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and minimize environmental impact.

Advanced laboratories – real research capabilities

The Department has a specialist laboratory equipped with modern research apparatus, enabling projects to be carried out at the highest technological level.

Selected laboratory equipment

  • 240 kW engine dynamometer,
  • test stand for HCCI combustion systems,
  • single-cylinder research engine with variable valve timing and valve lift, direct gasoline injection, internal exhaust gas recirculation and mechanical supercharging,
  • advanced injection and ignition control system,
  • multi-component FTIR exhaust gas analysis system (determination of up to 25 chemical compounds),
  • measurement systems for spectrometric analysis of the combustion process.

Computer laboratory

In addition, we use specialist software for:

  • design and optimization of transport systems,
  • structural analyses of means of transport,
  • diagnostics of machines and equipment.
