Development of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Key milestones in the development of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Lublin University of Technology.

1953

Foundation of the engineering school

By Resolution No. 341 of the Council of Ministers of 13 May 1953, the Evening Engineering School in Lublin was established. The institution initially had only one faculty – the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The first entrance exam took place on 24 August 1953 and the studies began with 107 students.

1953

First academic year

The first inauguration of the academic year took place on 1 November 1953. At the beginning the university had no facilities of its own and used classrooms in several buildings in Lublin.

1962

First university building

The tenth inauguration of the academic year took place in the first university building located at J. Dąbrowskiego Street (today Bernardyńska Street).

1962

Industrial cooperation

Renovation and laboratory equipment were financed with the support of the largest industrial companies from the Lublin region.

1965

Higher School of Engineering

On 28 April 1965 the Evening Engineering School was transformed into the Higher School of Engineering in Lublin.

1973

Institute of Technology and Machine Operation

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering became the Institute of Technology and Machine Operation and master’s degree studies were introduced.

1977

New building at Nadbystrzycka

A new building of the institute was opened at Nadbystrzycka 36, significantly improving research and teaching conditions.

1977

Lublin University of Technology

On 1 October 1977 the Higher School of Engineering was transformed into Lublin University of Technology.

1988

Independent Faculty

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering became an independent faculty after the division of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Organisation.

1999

Right to confer habilitation

The faculty obtained the right to confer the postdoctoral degree (habilitation).

2014

Centre for Innovation and Advanced Technologies

The new Centre for Innovation and Advanced Technologies building was opened with modern laboratories for mechanical engineering research.

2018

A+ scientific category

The Faculty obtained the highest scientific category A+, confirming the high quality of research and scientific achievements.
