Dr. Eng. Monika Ostapiuk from the Department of Materials Engineering has been nominated to participate in the 10th edition of the competition entitled “Eureka! DGP - we discover Polish inventions”.
The invention created by our scientists in cooperation with the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon is a material that is able to repair its own micro-cracks. It consists of layers of magnesium and a carbon-epoxy composite, between which microcapsules with substances necessary to repair the original part are placed (researchers from Portugal are working on the capsules).
The invention has a chance to appear on the commercial market.
