Department of Metal Forming

We Shape Engineers Who Shape Metal

The Department of Metal Forming actively participates in the education of students across multiple programmes at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, offering specialized knowledge and practical competencies in the field of modern metal forming technologies.

Our educational offer focuses on the theory and technology of plastic forming of metal products, combining solid scientific foundations with real industrial challenges.

  • Metal forming
  • CAD
  • FEM / CEA
  • Process design
  • Industrial engineering

Learning Based on Practice and Technology

We prepare future engineers to work in a modern manufacturing environment. Students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills in:

  • designing manufacturing processes using metal forming methods
  • applying advanced CAD tools and numerical analyses (FEM/CEA) as well as physical modelling
  • designing tools and technological equipment
  • performing engineering calculations and numerical simulations
  • developing innovative structural and technological solutions
  • construction, operation, and certification of metal forming machinery

Most of our academic staff have industrial experience gained in positions such as design engineers and process engineers. This allows us to transfer knowledge that has real application in manufacturing enterprises.

Strong Theoretical Foundations

Alongside practical competencies, students acquire advanced knowledge supporting modern engineering analysis and process optimisation.

Engineering theory

  • the theory of plastic flow of metals and the theory of elasticity
  • mechanics of materials
  • analysis of experimental data and process optimisation
  • history of technology and the development of industrial technologies

Computational engineering

  • computer programming supporting engineering calculations
  • development of numerical tools
  • finite element analysis (FEM / CEA)
  • process modelling and validation

This combination of theory, simulation, and engineering practice builds comprehensive competencies required in modern industry.

Specialisations Aligned with Market Needs

Within the Mechanical Engineering programme, we offer specialised (second-cycle) and profile-oriented (first-cycle) subject modules tailored to the needs of modern manufacturing industries.

Mechanical Engineering

Students develop competencies related to metal forming technologies, process design, and industrial manufacturing systems.

Other study programmes

The Department also delivers courses in other study programmes, including:

  • Management and Production Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Transport

Topics include manufacturing technologies, tools and machinery for metal forming, and selected issues in the elasticity and plasticity theory of materials.

Science that Evolves with Industry

Our knowledge and competencies continuously develop through research projects and cooperation with industry. This ensures that our curriculum remains technologically advanced and aligned with real market demands.
