The FRC 5883 Spice Gears team was established in 2016 in Kraśnik and consists of high school students from Kraśnik district. It was founded on the initiative of Ryszard Kuśmierczyk by Dariusz Głuchowski, who is the team's main mentor. From the very beginning, the district's high school students have shown that there is no gap between them and young people from all over the world. Among the team's successes, the most notable is winning the Judges Award in their first year, 2016. In 2017, during the FIRST Global Robotics Olympics-style competitions as the Polish national team, team members won second place out of more than 163 teams, and in August 2018 they repeated their success, winning the Albert Einstein Award For International Excellence. In addition to this, in 2018 the team won first place twice at FRC regional competitions in Shenzhen and Shanghai, the Chairman's Award - awarded for overall team development and community impact. Dariusz Gluchowski won the Woodie Flowers Award for best mentor. With these awards the team opened the way to the finals, which took place in April 2018 in Detroit. At one point in the 2018 season, the team was ranked number two among about four thousand active teams in the world.
