FIRST (short for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international nonprofit organization that organizes the FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League Jr. and FIRST Tech Challenge with the objective of developing and inspiring students in the fields of engineering and technology. It was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen and Woody Flowers.

FIRST Global Challenge (FGC) is a new type of FIRST competition. It takes on the characteristics of the Olympics, which means that one team representing its country is fielded from each country. The competitions are held every year in the capital of a different country. The first Olympics was held in 2017 in Washington, DC, and 163 teams took part, including six representing each continent.

 Lublin: Robotics League is a competition fully prepared and organized by the members of the Spice Gears robotics team, which helped to promote the FIRST idea among high school students of Lublin voivodeship. One of the patrons of the event was Lublin University of Technology, which saw the potential in this event and offered the winners of the competition the opportunity to study at its faculties.
